Post Oak (Quercus stellata) is a medium to large-sized tree with a dense rounded form; the upper branches and stems are often  twisted and gnarled. Distinctive cross- or ghost-shaped leaves. Post oak grows in rocky upland woodlands and on broad ridges. Slow growing, long lived tree. Height at maturity is 70 ft. Post Oak is tolerant of various soil types and prefers acidic well-drained soil in full sun. It is resistant to drought, fire, and diseases. Use in the lawn as a shade tree, in naturalized areas, or as a street tree.


Uses: Post oak can be used for reforestation on dry rocky sites. Wildlife benefits are food and cover.
